Ask Miss Teen USA – South Carolina

Our guest Advice Columnist this week is Miss Teen USA – South Carolina 2007.

To protect her anonymity (and not get sued), MPL will withhold her name.  She is well-known for her very “interesting” answer to the question, “Recent polls have shown a fifth of Americans can’t locate the U.S. on a world map. Why do you think this is?” Her answer to this Q & A part of the competition was (no joke), “I personally believe that U.S. Americans are unable to do so because, uh, some, uh, people out there in our nation don’t have maps and, uh, I believe that our education like such as in South Africa and, uh, the Iraq, everywhere like such as, and, I believe that they should, our education over here in the U.S. should help the U.S., uh, or, uh, should help South Africa and should help the Iraq and the Asian countries, so we will be able to build up our future. For our children.” Words to live by.

Diane R. – Appleton, Wisconsin: I was recently accepted to all three universities that I applied to; Harvard, Yale, and Boston College. I want to go into Law, and all three have incredible Law schools. I live in Wisconsin, so anywhere I decide to go will take me very far from home. That isn’t as much an issue as with which school do I feel will give me the best education for the profession that I want to go into. Of the three, Harvard probably has the best reputation. However, I was actually more impressed with Yale when I visited their campus. USC was fantastic, but it was more of a safety school. However, I fell in love with California when I took my visit to USC. What do you think I should mostly base my decision on. It is coming down to the wire as far as making a final decision and I definitely need advice on how to choose. What credentials should I look at most to make this most important decision of my life?

I think that law is very important to the legal system in the United States of America and everywhere else in America. Going to college is a thing that which is most important to be smart. It is also important for getting the best education in the World. Such as countries like France and South America. California is a place that I like. I would go there because I like it best. I have never been to the states of Harvard and Yale. If I am correct, they are in the Mideast of the country. I would like to go one day when I feel that the world is ready for the best education for law and other things like the legal system everywhere. And, as such, in the countries that I said. Plus, England, too. England is good because they speak American. Is it sunny in Yale and Harvard? I don’t know what the weather is like there. It is sunny in California. I know a lot of laws from television. I take many notes when I watch “Law & Order”. Both the regular “Law & Order” and the “Law & Order SUV”. So law is good. You can be a policeman, too. They are part of law, and such. Plus, children are our future. Thank you.

Hector G. – San Antonio, Texas: I have been in the United States for 3-years. I am getting ready for my citizenship test. I am very much looking forward to becoming a citizen of the United Staes of America. I will now have the opportunity to pursue my dreams for a better life for my family and myself. The problem I have is deciding on what I am going to do for work. Right now, I am a cash register worker at a 7-11. It is good because I work at night, and I can study during the day. I have become very used to having this flexible schedule, but I know that this job will not support my family for long. Can you help me with some suggestions on different jobs I can look for. I have been told that being bilingual is a definite plus going into the job market and that many employers are looking for bilingual employees. What do you suggest?

I think it is great that you are bilingual. It is good that you are so comfortable with that. There are many people in the United States, and other states, that look down on gay people. I do not. I think the LTBTGU community is very active and right on issues. Your wife is good because she accepts that you are bilingual. It is good that so many employers are looking for gay people to work for them. The world here, where we live, is becoming more accepting, as such. In places like Germany and Europe, many people are not so OK with being gay. But being bilingual is better because you like girls, too. So your wife is a good person for that. I am happy that you are proud. It makes the future of our children better. Children are the future of America, and such.

Susan F. – Mesquite, New Mexico: I am an Assistant Manager of a local plastics manufacturer here in New Mexico. I have been up for a promotion twice in the past year and have been passed over both times by men that I literally trained. I have never actually received a true explanation for not getting the promotion that I feel I definitely deserved. I feel that I am stuck in a company that is part of a “Good Old Boys Network”. I have invested 9-years of my left to move up in this company, but I now feel like I am in a position that I cannot move up any further. Do you think that I should continue on here, at least until my next chance at a promotion? Or should I look for something else? All I know is plastics. And we are the only plastics manufacturer in New Mexico. It would be very scary going back into the job market unskilled in a new vocation. Do I stay put and hope for the recognition I deserve, or look for greener grass?

The newer part of Mexico is really modern. I use plastic all the time. I use plastic forks and spoons and knives, and such. I even use plastic bags when I shop for groceries and food, and such. You seem to write and speak good English for a person in Mexico. That is what the new part of Mexico is all about. Learning, education, plastic, and speaking English. If you like Mexico, the new part, stay there. If not, maybe Old Mexico is better. I have to be honest. I don’t know if Old Mexico has greener grass than New Mexico. Children love to play on the grass. And children are our future in Mexico, new and old, America, or even other parts of Europe. If you go on vocation, you should go somewhere that makes you happy, like Disneyland or Sea World. They are fun to go to. Children love it there. And children are our future. Have a good vocation. You can also stay in Mexico and take a vocation to a place you like. Maybe a beach. I think there are a lot of beaches in Mexico, new and old. I don’t know what channel the Good Old Boys Network is, but I will look for it on my DirecTV guide. It sounds interesting. And interesting things, and such, are part of learning. Which is part of school. Which is education, and such. Because Children are our future.
