Carter Eulogy
Share
Joe Biden has known Jimmy Carter since the 1976 presidential campaign. He was, in fact, the first US senator to endorse Carter’s presidential bid.
During his recent visit to see Carter, he was personally asked to do the president’s eulogy. Carter is 98, and is the longest-lived US president in history. Aside from politics, Jimmy Carter is known for his global humanitarian work and his tireless work with Habitat for Humanity. There is no doubt about his heart and the good he wanted to do in the world.
Media Pub Live was able to get a leaked copy of Biden’s first draft of the eulogy, where he said he was, “proud to write it myself about my good friend, without any help.”
Although not completed, here are some of the bullet points he jotted down so far:
- Born in 1776 and president in 1976. You are the Bicentennial president!
- Amazing job writing and starting in the 1970s show, Welcome Back Carter. You did an awesome job discovering John Travolta and other lesser well known mediocre talent.
- Jimmy’s middle name is Earl. Because you have to get up pretty “Earl”y in the morning to be a farmer. <Pause for laughter>
- He won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002. He had a no bell policy because he had an open door policy. And if you have an open door you don’t need no bell. <Pause for laughter and/or say ‘hello is this thing on??’>
- In 1946, Jimmy joined the Navy and served in the Submarine Service. He was in the Purchasing department. But he often got written up for always ordering “sub-standard” parts. <Pause for laughter>.
- He was born in Plains, Georgia. His siblings were born in Trains, Georgia, and Automobile, Alabama. Because I mean who doesn’t love John Candy?! Ammiright??
- On his second day as president, Mr. Carter pardoned all Vietnam War draft evaders. He called it a Win/Nguyen. And gave an extra medal to anyone named Charlie.
- He completed the Panama Canal Treaties, “bridging the gap” between the countries, and negotiations over “troubled waters.” Many have said he was a “Lifesaver,” even though he was “thrown in” at the last minute.
- Lastly, I want to say that the Carters are the longest-wed presidential couple in history, having celebrated their 76th anniversary on July 7th 2022. He said the secret to a long life was a good marriage. I guess we have to trust him on that. And if you want to make it to 98, it helps to have a good heart, good marriage, and be a champion of all humanity. Thank you, Mr. President, for your service.
