Chris Rock’s Selective Outrage Netflix Special

Share

On March 4th 2023, Chris Rock and Netflix presented a live from Baltimore Maryland,
“Selective Outrage.” This was Chris’s new standup special that he has spent a year, since the
infamous Oscar Slap, rehearsing and fine tuning.

Chris Rock, went straight out of suburbs, and made a straight gangsta move, by addressing
the Will Smith, Jada Pinkett Smith, Oscar’s slap, in Jada’s hometown of Baltimore Maryland. It
don’t get more gangsta than that.

This Brotha here, knew what he was doing and he didn’t come to play. He gave us straight
hood “spades” on the street corner in “Cherry Hill,” now come and get me sucka, comedy.
If you understand comedy and the comic, Chris did what was in his right, and, what most any
comic does. He used his humiliation and pain, and put that into an hour plus show. It was a
masterclass in standup. Whether you liked it or not.

Chris was brutal, honest, and set the stage for some serious, selective outrage. Comments
have run the gamut, from, “Chris, hates Black women.” to “Chris, made me laugh so hard, I
think I peed a little.”

The truth is, Chris gave us intellectual comedy, with a bit of tabloid tell all fodder. And he did
so, surrounded by Baltimore City Police, metal directors, and phone confiscation. Brotha was
not going to give us a Lincoln/Wilkes Booth, moment. He came protected.

This is a Hollywood war, and Chris pressed the button. Like he said, “Don’t hate the player,
hate the game.”
