Daylight Savings Time

DST was first proposed in 1784 by Benjamin Franklin to conserve candles. Other astronomers and scientists have provided similar opinions every few decades since then.
In 1908, Ontario, Canada first started using DST. In 1916, Germany and Australia started using it as well.
In the US, it was first used in 1918, and then repealed. Then it was brought back by President FDR during WWII.
Fast forward to today. Most people hate it and even have negative feelings towards farmers who they feel is the outdated cause of this disruptive practice.
The White House called us at Media Pub Live and asked us what they should do. Here was our feedback:
- The time change should happen twice a week! Yes! Every Friday at 4pm, move forward an hour. Every Sunday night at 9pm, move back an hour. Repeat every week.
- Skip DST every leap year. I mean we are giving them a whole extra day so that’ll do. I mean that’s gotta be more than what they’re getting now. Don’t count the days, make the day count.
- It’s too much, we think the country should move the clock forward like, 7-8 minutes tops and then move it back. So more like shavings, not full savings.
- Not everyone deserves it! Daylight savings shouldn’t be for the whole country, but to select individuals who want to earn it. We are not Project Managers here at MPL, but we suggest something like this. We divide up the country into 12 Districts. Then each District can choose a bunch of kids, let’s call them tributes, and then they fight to the death and the top 6 Districts can qualify for DST. But then each of the 6 Districts can send 100 people to Las Vegas, Circus Circus Casino. Then from there, Oprah will call out the seat numbers of the select few who can use Daylight savings time. To the lucky 200 people called, they will hear those famous words from Oprah, “You get some Daylight! You get some Daylight! You all get some Daylight!!!!!”
To quote Forrest Gump, “That’s pretty much it.”
