Car companies are always looking for new ways to improve the marketability of their vehicles. DriveSpeak is a new and upcoming company working on the development of innovative car parts. Head of new product development Guy Murphy discussed their newest innovation, “It’s called speech to spoken outside the car, I know we need a better name and that will happen eventually. First off people are so used to horns and being honked at that we start to ignore them and it can easily be a safety issue. With Speech to spoken, a driver can talk to their car like Alexa and say “hey Car, say get out of my way” and boom the front speaker we developed says get out of my way in a very easy to hear level. We have tried many versions and we are considering locking out bad words but than that is about 78.7% of what is said through our product. Think about how nice it would be to say hey car, say get the F off your phone and drive, or stop texting you moron and drive safely. It was an interesting learning curve because initially it was text to speech but after 28 crashes in our first trial we decided or our lawyers decided that speech to spoken would be a better and less litigious way of doing it. Soon we will be onboarding famous people to be our voices that drivers can choose, imagine Arnold Schwarzenegger saying asta lavista baby as you take another car off the line. We are very excited that Snoopy dog or whatever his name may be signing up. His voice may have a more calming effect versus the others we are in talks with.”
We have followed up with this new innovation and while there has been many investors lining up behind this product, there are many detractors. Police officers have reported that every city where this has been tested there has been a 45% increase in road rage incidents. Time will tell if this will be the next automobile product to take off. Guy Murphy dismissed the road rage and said, “remember when cupholders where being discussed and naysayers said that would encourage people to drink and drive, well its very similar.”
