Earth Day ESG Profile: Amazon

Earth Day ESG stories of corporations making good on their promise of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) goals, to please both investors and activists.
In an effort to attract and retain delivery drivers, Amazon is offering employees the option to sleep in their cars overnight. This pilot project is known as Amazon Live&Go and includes a newly designed delivery vehicle with a pop-up camper attachment.
“Because of the high truancy and turnover rate of delivery drivers, Amazon hired me to perform analytics on the driver pool,” stated external HR consultant Ryan Bingham. “Many of them earning a wage below the poverty line have been either sleeping in their cars or commuting to work over 3 hours a day. The most common commute that we identified was from suburban Philadelphia to the New York Metro area.”
“Amazon is dedicated to becoming Earth’s Best Employer,” responded Amazon Public Relations firm Dewey, Cheatham and Howe. “This initiative is by no means another union busting tactic that our client has been accused of, but rather an ESG goal to reduce employee carbon emissions from their commutes.”
Amazon is also rumored to be expanding their Prime Membership Service to offer 24×7 delivery service partnering with late night media retailers Home Shopping Network and QVC. Delivery drivers are not expected to work 24×7 but will have the option of working flexible hours throughout the day without overtime pay.
