Earth Day ESG stories of corporations making good on their promise of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) goals, to please both investors and activists.
Vrbo has partnered with Swedish retail IKEA showrooms to monetize their retail space during non-business hours. This joint venture aims to address the lack of affordable hotels and homes, along with improving IKEA’s operations during off hours.
“The lights out at midnight policy helps to promote energy saving,” stated Swedish environmental activist Greta Thurnberg. “I’m going to be delighted to stay at IKEA whenever I’m on my world speaking tour.”
As a spokesperson for the new initiative, Thurnberg will have free access to all IKEA:Vrbo locations globally and for any prolonged period. This will significantly help Thurnberg’s parents out, as the Gen Z stalwart had threatened to “never work a day in my life” and live at home forever.
IKEA Chief Culinary Officer, the Swedish Chef, added “Heed-a-veed-eee meebee moo moo. Bork bork woo.” Translated into English, “Included with the overnight stay is a free Swedish breakfast with pancakes and meatballs.
A small caveat for the guests of the heavily discounted stay, is that they must place new sheets on the beds. This turnover of linens keeps the showroom looking fresh, an IKEA spokesperson added.
Vrbo:IKEA stays have sold out in nearly every US city facing a homelessness crisis along with Germany, the EU country that receives the most refugees.
