House Arrest

In light of the circus surrounding the arraignment of someone famous in New York, many people have missed the new legislation that passed the New York legislature regarding house arrest. For decades, millionaires and billionaires convicted of crimes have had the luxury of being sentenced to house arrest or in some cases houses arrest because of the number of homes they own. This will no longer be the case, if you are convicted in New York and sentenced to house arrest, you will no longer have the option of doing time in ones own residence. Moving forward, when a convicted felon is sentenced to house arrest they are now being sent to a house of the states choosing, Alberto Rodriguez’ home in Queens. Turns out Alberto is also on house arrest as well for the next 10 years as a result of a plea deal. His house was chosen based on his location which is a poor area that is in dire need of development.
State Representative Frank DePauly explained, “The beauty of this legislation is that criminals can’t just sit back in their multi-million dollar home and enjoy their sentence. Now they go where we say the go, Alberto’s house but they have the choice of upgrading their chosen location o accommodate their needs. There is one caveat to the upgrades that they make, as any and all upgrades must be made for the surrounding houses up to a half mile. This is like a developmental project funded by our rich criminals; it is truly a win win for everyone involved.”
