Longevity Scientists

Media Pub Live was able to attend a discussion between two highly respected Longevity Scientists.
Dr. Vududat Youdosowell is a professor in molecular, cell, and cancer biology at the University of Massachusetts Medical School.
Bradley Wideman is a 400-pound trucker in Arizona who knows a lot about stuff, including longevity and widegevity..
Here’s the highlights of their discussion:
VY, “There is a clear connection between eating added sugar and poor aging. We have found links between added sugar and worse health over time in experiments on C. elegans, a roundworm that shares 40% of its genes with humans and so is used to model our health span. We changed the diet of the roundworms and found that more sugar was linked to an increase in what are known as advanced glycation end products (AGEs), high levels of which are associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic kidney disease, and Alzheimer’s disease.”
BW, “That’s exactly what I found too! So, like we should eat less sugar, and more dirt, like the roundworms? But if these worms are so fit without sugar, why are they still round?”
VY, “I’m not going to answer that. Anyways, the 4 keys to longevity are: 1. Limit added sugar in your diet. 2. Keep your mind and body active. For the mind, avoid doing the same thing every day, because it’s the new connections that are made in our brains when we do new things that help keep our brains active. And for the body, ‘Sitting is the new smoking’, you have to get up and move.”
BW, “What if you sit and smoke all day like me? I’m a trucker, not a ballerina! And for the mind, you are saying don’t be in a rut, but get my wife and sidechicks involved in new things together and explore different things?”
VY, “I’m not going to talk to you. 3. Keep your blood sugar stable with whole foods. This means whole grain bread, fruits, and vegetables. Swapping juices or smoothies for whole fruits is a good start, because fiber is broken down when fruit is juiced or blended, meaning sugars can enter your body more quickly, causing blood sugar to spike.”
BW, “I switched from juice to wine, is that good? I mean, I’m not an alcoholic or anything. I only drink on two occasions… breakfast, and after breakfast. Is that ok?”
VY, “Why are you here again?? 4. Try to be optimistic and find happiness. Being optimistic was associated with longevity, including living past the age of 85, in one study by researchers at Boston University School of Medicine.”
BW, “But how old are you? Like 40? You know you can’t be a longevity scientist unless you can prove you can live till 100 right? Right now, you and I are just spouting shit like a Kansas outhouse in a tornado.”
VY, “Who are you really?? SECURITY!! I am done and I just want to say one final thing. People, please avoid eating red meat. There are so many healthy alternatives that we….”
BW, “I totally agree with that! I don’t eat red meat anymore. I buy blue food coloring and voila! Blue meat is all I eat so I don’t have to worry about all the red meat concerns anymore.”
