Now Boarding: Southwest Flight Attendant Comedy Specials

Southwest Airlines is joining NETFLIX and HBO as a final destination for stand-up comedy.

“For years our flight attendants have told jokes over the PA systems of our airplanes,” said Barry Tartt, VP of Comedy at Southwest, “so we figured we might as well film them so viewers at home can experience the same range of mild amusement to total indifference passengers feel on our planes.”

So far undiscovered talents like Captain Frank, Stuart S. and First Class Francine have inked deals. Tartt told Media.pub, “We’re extremely excited for the world to politely nod at Stuart S.’ puns, and for First Class Francine’s regional humor to get lost in translation with a wider audience.”

The airline’s comedy special titles include, Peanuts Gallery, Light Chop, and This Is The Deal With Airplane Food.

Tartt concluded with a great piece of advice, “To truly best replicate the in-person experience, we suggest you watch our flight attendants do comedy with noise canceling headphones on while listening to something else entirely.”

The first specials are slated to air at South by Southwest by Southwest (SXSWXSW) this summer.
