Q&A with Craig Kilborn at MediaPubLive!

We were fortunate to meet up with Craig Kilborn and do a little Q&A! Read below to see what we uncovered!

MPL: What was it that made you want to be entertainment?

Craig: My childhood was all about comedy and basketball. I was always funny and my Dad was funny. I’d watch Monty Python, The Honeymooners with Jackie Gleason, and Johnny Carson.  When I played basketball, it was like being on stage. I was smooth and would entertain the crowd. Years later, I thought a great outlet for my comedy would be a sitcom or a late night show. There’s no better feeling in the world than being creative, writing a joke or turning a phrase.

MPL: How did your family feel when you took an unconventional career path?

Craig: Well, I never really said entertainment. I just said sportscasting but was always hoping to do late night. I almost didn’t take the ESPN job because I wanted to do comedy. But it was too good to turn down. And it all worked out.

MPL: How has the industry changed over the years?

Craig: Gosh, I walked away early. I escaped the silliness. But the entertainment industry is constantly changing. When I grew up there were 3 networks. Now there are countless streamers and so many shows. Hard to keep up.

MPL: What are your feelings about all of these streaming services and how they may impact entertainment in a positive way?

Craig: I like them as long as they don’t get too expensive. I enjoy watching Bosch and now Bosch Legacy, Billions, and, of course, reruns of my favorite sitcom Frasier.

MPL: When you are not behind a camera – what kinds of things do you enjoy or do to keep you busy?

Craig: I have a magical life which I share with my podcast ‘The Life Gorgeous.’  I enjoy connecting with the old fans on my Instagram. My favorite activity is a roadtrip with my wife up north to Carmel or some other lovely coastal towns in California. We hike and eat and eat at French or Italian restaurants.

MPL: Lastly, what has been your favorite project you have done and are most proud of?

Craig: My favorite job was easily The Late, Late Show on CBS. But…I’m having a blast on Instagram. It’s amazing how a martini picture and a clever line can be so satisfying creatively.

A big thanks to Craig for taking some time out with MPL!
