Retro Video Games on the Silver Screen

There is no doubt that there have been some serious BLOCKBUSTER movies based on video games; Tomb Raider, Resident Evil, and Doom amongst others.

And with everything retro becoming more and more popular, we have seen these as well; Mario Brothers, Super Mario Brothers (coming soon), Pixels, and Street Fighter.

So, what’s left? How about the most retro of retro. The Grand Daddy of all video game movies…

PONG!!!

That’s right. The one that started it all. PONG.

The year is 1972. The Electronic Future has arrived in full force. Televisions are in color. Radio is slowly being dominated by FM. Restaurants, retail stores, and gas stations are taking VISA, MasterCard, and Diners Club. Inflation is creeping up quickly. McDonald’s has increased the price of a hamburger to 28¢. A Cheeseburger to 33¢. Cigarettes are at an all-time high at 42¢ a pack. People are barely able to afford to drive while gas is over 36¢ a gallon.

While the financial economy is crumbling, drugs are running rampant. Rock and Roll is polluting the airwaves for millions of upstanding adults that wear suits and hats every day to work and church. And children are being terrorized by scenes of the Hippie movements that tell them that Love and Peace is a good thing.

Amidst all this chaos arose two men. Their names… Player 1 and Player 2. These are not normal men. They have no facial features. They have no arms. No legs. No visual genitalia. In fact, these seem to robots of some sort… and THEY ARE! Two robots that can move vertically at incredible rates of speed. Up and down. Up and down. So incredibly fast. Blinding speed!

Created by the Atari Company, these specimens have been manufactured to save the world from what is know as “The Square.” “The Square” has actually been created by a member of the Atari Company as well… as a way to destroy Player 1 and/or Player 2. Like an M. Night Shyamalan movie, it’s an incredible twist.

I won’t give away anymore. You must be in terrible suspense by now.

The release date is Summer 2023.

The only teaser I’ll offer is this…

Coming in Summer 2024… SUPER PONG!!!
