Thumb Wrestling to Become Olympic Sport

To the surprise of no one, Thumb Wrestling has officially become an Olympic sport. “The revolution of the sport really started with the invention of the cell phone. As phones became more and more advanced, fingers, and thumbs more specifically, became stronger and stronger by the day,” stated Jonathan Parilla, US Coach and sponsor for Marcus Charles XII, the US competitor, in this life changing sporting event.
What once was a game for children, ultimately helping kids decide who gets the top bunk if they won that specific thumb wrestling match, has now become a competition for those who have trained since the days of the Nokia brick phone. Marcus Charles XII, the reigning US Thumb Wrestling Grand Champion, highlighted last year on ESPN’s “I Can’t Believe This Is an Actual Sport,” will be representing the United States in the 2026 Olympics in Milan, Italy.
“I’m really proud of this accomplishment. I can’t believe I get to represent the most spoiled country in the world to compete for a gold medal in the pointless competition ever created,” Charles stated.
As his prelims begin in January of 2024, Charles knows the dedication it will take. “Thumb strength and flexibility is definitely taken for granted. I hope to do our country proud….the hard work is just starting”
Thumbs up to you, Marcus!
