Uhhhhh, Sure……

Donald Chulelelee climbed his way to being the CEO of IBM in the early 70’s. Several former employees questioned how he became CEO, and had such a long tenure in that role.
Back in grade school, he never spoke much….same in high school and in college and even when he graduated #1 from Harvard (MBA program). All those years, he answered every question with two simple words, “Uhhhh sure”. His entire life he never said much more than those two words.
We caught up with Donald and he had this to say, “Uhhh, sure, I will talk to you all…..I figured back in those years if I said pretty much nothing, I wouldn’t get in any trouble or make mistakes……so, I never said more than Uhhh sure……the result is I had a 25 year career with IBM and became the CEO….never said anything more than “Uhhhh sure”….I really never did anything at the company HQ….never made a decision…often smashed strawberries on the walls of the marble desk I had when I was bored….signed a few checks here and there…..attended several meetings where I uttered “Uhhh sure”……showed up at board meetings and let others make the big decisions….ok, once I took a crap on the CFO’s desk….hated that asshole….then I fired him because I could…..then I said, “Uhhh sure” when HR asked me if we should not give him a severance package…….maybe that explains why he took a crap on my desk the day he left…what a prick!”
