A bear died after climbing a power pole in Union County, New Mexico a few days ago.
It is always sad to lose a beautiful, wild creature in this way.
Local Native leader, Chief Sitting Cub announced: “We’ve been tracking her for some time now. Unfortunately, we’ve seen behavior where, if the daddy bear abandons the pack and leaves, the young females get out of control, and do crazy things to get the males’ attention, including climbing on power and other structures. In fact we call these bears, ‘Dances With Poles.’ And what’s odd is the male bears will throw fish at these pole dancers to show their approval… I will never understand where that behavior comes from!”
New Mexico Electric Avenue VP in charge of General Non Specific but Possible Legal Matters, Matthew Killowatturit, chimed in with, “Everyone involved needs to realize that we need to help save bear lives! That’s why we will be launching a new campaign called, ‘Only you can prevent bears stranded on top of pole accidental electrical fires.’ If you see something, say something. But far away, safely, and not directly to the bear I mean, but to our reporting line we will set up. We want bears and humans to be safe.”
